A native of Bluefield, West Virginia, Lawson Brooks migrated to Washington in 1974. Lawson received his B.A. Degree in Political Science at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia and his M.A. in Political Science at The American University in Washington, DC. Lawson also studied at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of Maryland- College Park. Since that time, Lawson has worked in various professional capacities in political, non-profit and corporate environments. Currently, Lawson works as an independent Consultant and Writer.
A 13-year survivor of prostate cancer, Lawson was diagnosed with the disease in April of 2000 and underwent surgery in June of that year at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. After his recovery from treatment, Lawson instantly became a voice in carrying the message of early detection and the need for men, particularly those of African-American descent to take control of their health. Lawson brings his message to groups in a frank and entertaining manner, leaving no subject as it relates to men’s health and fitness off the table.
